Skylanders: Giants Launch Info Revealed

Skylanders: Giants

The latest issue of Nintendo Power delivered a huge amount of information about Skylanders: Giants and its upcoming release this fall.

The magazine displayed four different Skylanders in its feature article, three of which are brand new. First up is Tree Rex, one of the game’s titular Giants; he belongs to the Life element.

Next up is Pop Fizz, who was before dubbed “Alchemist” when the game was revealed. He belongs to the Magic element, and is pictured below:

The third and last new Skylander revealed is Jet-Vac, who was before dubbed “Vac-Eagle.” He belongs to the Air element:

The fourth featured Skylander is Cynder, who, along with her fellow first-generation Skylanders, will be re-released in a new pose.

The game will be released in two flavors: the booster pack and starter pack. The booster pack will contain Tree Rex and Skylanders: Giants; this will be mainly targeted at those who already own the Portal of Power and Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure. The starter pack will be released in two varieties: one for the console, and one for the 3DS. Both versions contain the Portal of Power, Tree Rex, and Series 2 Cynder. The console version will also include Jet-Vac, while the 3DS version comes with Pop Fizz instead.

All Series 1 Skylanders (the ones released for Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure) are forward-compatible with Skylanders: Giants. The level cap has been raised in Giants from 10 to 15, and all of your previous data from your Skylanders is carried over to the new game. As previously mentioned, the Series 1 Skylanders will be re-released in new poses/molds; these versions (Series 2) of the originals are able to learn new powers/attacks.

Nintendo Power plans to show four new Skylanders with each issue. Developer Toys for Bob noted that they will show more Skylanders: Giants information at E3 2012, so be sure check back for more information on the game as it becomes available!
