In case some of you didn’t know, Sonic the Hedgehog CD, which was originally developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega in 1993, takes place between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3. However, since it was only released on the Mega-CD at its initial release, there are many, myself included, who never got to play the game. It wasn’t until Sonic Gems Collection, released in 2005, that I got a chance to try it out.
For Sonic’s 20th anniversary, as well as a setup for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II‘s story, the game has been ported to many consoles and devices, this time developed by Blit Software and Christian Whitehead.
For my playthrough of this game, I’ll be showing off the key additions to this port; namely the two different soundtracks and a second playable character. Here’s the first part of this playthrough below!
