Sonic 3 & Knuckles, developed by Sonic Team and Sega Technical Institute, is a unique game not only for it’s gameplay, but for how it was developed. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was originally released on the Genesis in 1994, but, due to time constraints, cartridge costs, and legal issues with Micheal Jackson (who helped conduct the music but received no credit for), the game was split into two separate projects. The other half, Sonic and Knuckles, was released later that year in a different cartridge that’s a bit more unique than other Genesis games. With this special “lock-on technology” you were able to insert Sonic the Hedgehog 3 into the built in slot on Sonic & Knuckles, and play the game as it was intended to be.

So, with this game we’re introduced to another character and my personal favorite, Knuckles the Echidna. He, along with Sonic and Tails, are all playable and have their own unique gameplay styles, while retaining the element of speed. I’ve already done a live stream of a Tails alone playthrough, so this time I’ll be showing off Sonic and Tails, and then Knuckles. Here’s part one of my playthrough, once again featuring MusicJams18 as Tails.

For more on this playthrough, you can check out the playlist here. With this being one of my favorite games of all time, I greatly enjoyed this playthrough, and I hope everyone else enjoys it as well!
