Nintendo 2DS Announced, Trailer Available

I have to admit, I thought this was fake until it was officially announced by Nintendo. But with that said, the company announced the Nintendo 2DS today, a redesign of the 3DS the eschews the “clamshell” design that Nintendo has used often for their portables.

Features-wise, the 2DS is very similar to the 3DS and 3DS XL, with the obvious omission of any 3D effects for games. It’s still Wi-Fi compatible, and still plays any 3DS and DS titles.

Here’s a trailer for the 2DS, which was just released on Nintendo’s YouTube channel:

Retailing for $129.99, the Nintendo 2DS is set to launch in North America on October 12, 2013. The 3DS and 3DS XL, respectively priced at $169.99 and $199.99, will still be sold alongside the 2DS.

  • I’m just confused. This is stupid and unnecessary. There is a slider on the 3DS already allowing you to play 3DS games in 2D. It just blows my mind. There’s no way I’m ever getting this.

Hmm, well it is quite silly that it can’t be folded, I’m 70% sure that nintendo will create a 2ds XL.

I was hoping for the standard/XL with no 3D at a lower price. Not this, Nintendo dropped this out of nowhere
