Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble!

The third entry in the Donkey Kong Country series, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble! was released late into the life of the SNES. In fact, the follow-up to the SNES, the Nintendo 64, was already out when DKC3 launched. Regardless, Donkey Kong Country 3 introduced a number of new elements into the series, including a free-roaming world map, an RPG-like trading system, and a new playable character: Kiddy Kong. The game also features an excellent soundtrack, with tracks composed by Eveline Fischer and David Wise. While overlooked compared to the first two entries, Donkey Kong Country 3 is an excellent title with great new levels that grow challenging as you progress through the game.

Nearly a decade later, a portable version of Donkey Kong Country 3 launched on the Game Boy Advance. While the graphics and sound quality were reduced a bit to fit the portable’s hardware, the gameplay remained intact, with some new features added as well, including additional NPCs, mini-games, and even the addition of an exclusive world, Pacifica. The GBA version also features a completely new soundtrack composed solely by David Wise that is fantastic in its own right.

My playthrough of Donkey Kong Country 3 covers both versions of the game. What inspired me to cover both versions was OC ReMix’s Donkey Kong Country 3 album, which features fan-made remixes to tracks from the SNES and GBA versions of the game, which I thought was a great idea.

While it is a bit tedious for me to keep switching back in forth from recording on the SNES and GameCube’s Game Boy Player, the videos for the levels that will be uploaded on my channel should have easy transition between both versions.

I hope you enjoy the playthrough! Check out the first video of the playthrough below, which covers the introduction and first level of the game, Lakeside Limbo:
