Playthrough: Final Fantasy Explorers

Final Fantasy Explorers is a spin-off title in the Final Fantasy series co-developed by Square-Enix and Racjin. The game is somewhat inspired by Capcom’s Monster Hunter – you’ll see that in the quest structure and progression. However, with elements such as customizable job classes and abilities, the game certainly has its own identity and should satisfy those who enjoy the Final Fantasy series but want to play through a bit more of a laidback, lighthearted adventure.

My playthrough will feature a mix of single player and multiplayer uploads. Here’s the first part of the playthrough, which features the creation of my in-game character, as well as a few of the first few quests of the game. Enjoy!

I feel that while we see some elements of MH in FFEX, this game isn’t entirely MH. It feels more like PSO (Or PSU/PSP/PSP2 if you haven’t played PSO) than anything. Maybe it is just me, but I feel we shouldn’t compare this title to MH, else many people will hold FFEX to a MH standard and will be disappointed and won’t want to see how awesome this game truly is but instead label it as an “MH Clone” when I feel the developers were not trying to make such a clone in the first place. Just read IGN’s reviews. It is truly atrocious, and the video review from IGN? The like/dislike bar spoke volumes.

    • I agree. It’s a shame that the game is dismissed by some as a Monster Hunter clone. It’s actually quite different and I think it’s very fun. If it was a total clone, I don’t think I would like it nearly as much as I do. I’m glad I gave it a chance.
