Banjo-Kazooie was originally released in June 1998 for the Nintendo 64. I was given the game on my 11th birthday as a gift from my parents. I was immediately drawn into the game because of its vast and colorful words, silly humor, catchy tunes, and memorable cast of characters. It’s easily one of my favorite games on the N64!
Rare enjoyed a lengthy partnership with Nintendo, but the company was bought out by Microsoft in 2002. Since then, Rare has made console titles exclusively on Microsoft’s Xbox platforms. In December 2008, Microsoft, Rare, and 4J Studios released an HD version of Banjo-Kazooie on Xbox LIVE Arcade. The port has a widescreen resolution, along with new features such as Achievement support and the addition of “Stop ‘N’ Swop” connectivity. This version of the game is also included in the Rare Replay compilation for the Xbox One, which launched in August 2015.
My playthrough of the Xbox LIVE Arcade version of the game is a 100% run, so all collectibles are gathered! In addition to going through all of the game’s worlds, I also have two bonus videos for the playthrough, featuring Bottles’ puzzle mini-game and the aforementioned “Stop ‘N’ Swop” feature.
